Orthodontic treatment in adolescents

When is Orthodontic treatment necessary?

Orthodontic treatment is necessary in cases of crowding, jaw asymmetry or a combination of both.

Orthodontic mechanisms

The mechanisms that are used during orthodontic treatment are usually fixed (braces) that remain on the teeth during treatment and are removed only from the orthodontist.

When is orthodontic treatment considered successful?

Upon completion of a orthodontic treatment in teenagers a special orthodontist must succeed in the following goals:

1. Harmonious positioning of teeth and jaws in a way that the patient can perform all basic functions (breathing, chewing, swallowing, speaking).

2. Enable the patient through the harmonious positioning of teeth to perform daily oral hygiene in order to reduce tooth and gum problems in the future.

3. Facilitate the general dentist in any future dental proceedings like fillings, bridges and periodontal treatment.

4. Beautiful smile and pleasant face that will boost the person’s self- confidence.

Requirements for a successful orthodontic treatment.

A successful orthodontic treatment requires an orthodontist and a consistent patient. During treatment the patient must follow the orthodontist’s instructions on using orthodontic mechanisms, be punctual on his appointments and have decent oral hygiene. This is the only way to a successful treatment in the least amount of time. As for the duration of the treatment, it varies from a few months to some years, depending on the nature and the magnitude of the problem.
